Miss Katy

Ms. Kathryn Roper, affectionately known in the dance community as “Miss Katy,” started first formally dancing when she took tap dance lessons at the age of 2.  She trained in ballet, tap and jazz along the way with Alice Hanly, Lorraine Spada, Janet Gilday & Donna Miceli.  She later performed in the first hip hop Dance team at her alma mater, Roger Williams University, where she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in English, with minors in Dance and Philosophy. Miss Katy further studied at the Boston Ballet, under Miss Judi K. from NYC & with Madelon Curtis from Lowell. Currently working as a licensed fitness instructor for corporations and gyms, she’s also been teaching ballet, tap, jazz, & modern dance classes for over 20 years at local studios including the Donna Miceli Dance Center, 5678 Dance Studio, Susan Searles, Elite Dance Company, The Movement Center, RDA, Gotta Dance, SRDC, Spotlight Dance Academy and for the Walnut Hill School.  Some of her former students dance professionally on cruise ships, at Disneyworld, on Broadway, and in Las Vegas.  Others direct their own dance studios, lead rehearsals for college dance teams, or work dancing for professional sports teams, such as the Celtics.  She brings a wealth of knowledge and passion when teaching, while her high energy, constant smile and positive attitude keep her classes lively and fun.
